The global climate emergency disproportionately affects the 1.1 billion people living in low income and informal urban settlements. As cities continue to grow, urban policy and practice must enable low carbon and resilient housing and basic services for informal settlements.
The scale of this challenge requires international agencies, researchers, governments, communities, businesses and donors to work together to foster innovation and forge new partnerships that respond to poverty, inequality and climate change.
The Urban Climate Justice Hub is a collaborative initiative aimed at addressing the intersecting challenges of rapid, often informal, urbanisation, climate change and social inequality.
It seeks to work with partners to enhance recognition of differential climate impacts, trial scalable climate-resilient and low-carbon interventions, and demonstrate governance and resourcing pathways to support equitable climate action in low-income, informal urban communities.
