The project ‘Local economic development through ‘pro-poor’ gorilla tourism in Uganda’ has been developing initiatives to increase the value of gorilla tourism for both tourists and local people.
This report gives a background to honey production around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park before presenting the content of the training provided to local beekeepers by Golden Bees Ltd.
The training aimed to build the supply of good quality local honey by increasing the skill and knowledge of the beekeepers and introducing low cost ‘transitional’ hives.
Finally, the report gives a progress update on the status of honey production in the area since the project, as well as providing recommendations and a way forward for the beekeeping industry around Bwindi.
