US President Joe Biden addresses COP27
Reacting to the speech by US President Joe Biden at the COP27 negotiations in Egypt, IIED's executive director Tom Mitchell said:
“It is good to hear that the US is committing to double its contribution to the adaptation fund but it’s still a long way from their fair share of climate finance. There’s also no guarantee that more money will get to the very poorest communities and that local people will have a say in how it is spent.
“Thankfully, the outcome of the midterm elections would appear to leave the door open for further and greater action from the US on climate in the next couple of years. That should include finance specifically to address loss and damage, and accessible instantly to countries whenever a climate emergency strikes.”
