John Taylor is an urban planner and the co-founder and former director of the Kota Kita Foundation (Our City Foundation), based in Surakarta, Indonesia. His work focuses on the promotion of participatory planning, inclusive governance, and the engagement of marginalised voices and civil society organisations in planning and policymaking in the built environment.
Largely based in the global South, John’s work covers a range of urban issues including food and nutrition security, poverty reduction, circular economies, climate change, informal housing, public service delivery, public space design and transportation.
John has over 20 years of experience working in international development with local organisations, along with UN HABITAT, UNDP, FAO and USAID, mostly in Angola, Bangladesh and Indonesia.
