Binyam is an experienced UNFCCC negotiator and currently co-coordinates negotiations on the adaptation theme on behalf of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group.
Adaptation, international climate negotiation
Worked for the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of Ethiopia serving as an environmental law expert: main responsibilities involved coordinating matters related to multilateral environmental agreements including domestic ratifications and supporting national implementation of those treaties. Contributed to drafting several related national environmental laws in Ethiopia. Core team member of Ethiopian national delegation to the UNFCCC and engaged in multilateral negotiations on Minamata Convention on Mercury.
Education:
Binyam has a bachelor’s degree in law from Mikelle University and a master’s degree in Intellectual Property Law from University of South Africa (UNISA).
Support the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group and LDC chair, and engage in the Paris Agreement rulebook negotiations. Work on national climate law, policy and governance work.
