In July 2018, indigenous people representing more than 50 indigenous mountain communities of South, Central and Southeast Asia, the Pacific, Latin America and Africa gathered in the Suusamyr pasture in Kyrgyzstan to exchange knowledge systems on how to improve the wellbeing of mountain communities in the face of climate change.

This declaration of the International Network of Mountain Indigenous Peoples (INMIP) outlines the key messages from this meeting, INMIP's fifth community to community learning exchange.

The declaration was released to coincide with the UNFCCC COP24 meeting in Katowice, Poland, in December 2018. It calls on Parties to take urgent action to protect vulnerable mountain ecosystems and the rights of mountain indigenous peoples, whose cultures maintain valuable knowledge and practices for climate adaptation and biodiversity conservation.
