COP27 draws to a close

IIED at the 2022 UNFCCC climate change summit in Sharm el-Sheikh (COP27). Along with our partners, we supported negotiators from the least developed countries, organised side events and workshops, and analysed progress at the talks.
How IIED and partners are showcasing approaches to get climate finance to the local level and behind the priorities of local people
Loss and damage caused by climate impacts will be a key issue at COP27. IIED's side event highlighted pathways for delivering financial support to victims of loss and damage
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) binds over 190 countries to work together to tackle climate change. Each year the parties to the convention meet to review progress. The 27th Conference of Parties (COP27) took place in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, from 6-18 November, 2022.
IIED researchers and partners led and presented at events throughout COP27. Our events called for more ambitious targets and actions to reduce carbon emissions, addressed debt relief for climate and nature, championed locally led adaptation to deliver a climate resilient world, and highlighted the need for climate finance to reach those that need it the most, as well as supporting negotiators from the LDCs.
During COP27 IIED and partners prioritised the calls for more ambitious targets and actions to reduce carbon emissions, the need for more climate finance to reach Indigenous People and Local Communities to tackle climate change, and for the international community to do more to address developing country debt, nature and climate, tackling these together for a sustainable future.
