May Thazin Aung is a climate finance researcher with expertise in leveraging climate finance to have the greatest impact on climate affected communities. She works with multiple institutions at different levels ranging from governments, climate funds and international development organizations influencing institutional changes that can benefit communities.
She has established partnerships bilaterally and with networks of policy makers, communities and development organizations focused on practical solutions that benefit people and the planet. She combines her advocacy with research where she has sought to understand and highlight the needs of marginalized social groups in society – highlighting differentiated needs around access to financial and social resources, energy and natural resources.

May is developing indicators for understanding divergent views of locally led adaptation and bottom up approaches for accountability. She is also exploring divergent perspectives of just transitions and the questions 'what is justice' and 'what is the transition to?'
