New look for IIED's Publications Library

Since 2005 IIED has been making its extensive research on sustainable development freely available online – and now the 7,000-plus publications are easier to find than ever.

Work on the institute's Publications Library was completed last week to better integrate the online repository with www.iied.org. 

This included improvements to site security and the institute’s analysis system, to better improve the reports provided to our donors and monitor and develop the site itself, and greater options for users searching the site.

This essential foundation work will ensure we can build in a series of further enhancements over the coming year to give users even greater access and offer personalised features.

IIED Communications Director Liz Carlile said: “Making our research accessible online is an essential part of our communications strategy. The technology and design we have chosen – the library is fully mobile responsive – recognises the range of different access issues and needs that that people have over the world, particularly our partners and communities in the global South.

“We’re delighted to have completed this significant piece of work that provides the foundation for a range of exciting plans we have for the site in the future.”

More IIED publications than ever were downloaded from the Publications Library in 2020 in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic as our audiences increasingly used digital devices to access our research.

The vast majority of publications in the library are available to download free of charge. They range from policy briefings and 'backgrounder' factsheets that summarise key findings and policy recommendations on an issue to case studies and our longer, more detailed peer reviewed country reports, research reports and issue papers.

We also produce toolkits designed to present methods and tactics that are ready-for-use.
