The percentage of biomass energy within the total share of different energy sources is set to treble from 10% to 30% by 2050 according to the International Energy Agency – with major potential impacts (both positive and negative) for poverty reduction and the protection of ecosystem services.

An international consortium drawn from India, Kenya, Malawi and the UK met to design a research proposal that would deliver both excellent multi-disciplinary science and actually make a real positive impact in reducing poverty and conserving ecosystem services relating to biomass energy. This report gives the outcomes of this workshop.
