20:20 vision – from the realities, the cures
Drawing on examples from IIED’s work around the world, this publication charts the institute's first 20 years.
It describes how research, policy advice and partnerships helped influence the management of forests, drylands, agriculture and marine resources; reshape thinking on energy, climate change and environmental economics; and improve approaches to urban development.
It also highlights IIED’s work with governments, international organisations, businesses, researchers and civil society, particularly through partnerships that strengthened knowledge and professional capacity in the global South.
The publication reflects on IIED’s achievements in its first two decades while emphasising the continuing urgency, scale and complexity of environmental and development challenges. It argues that practical evidence, collaboration and long-term action are essential to create sustainable societies that protect natural resources while meeting the needs of people living in poverty.
