With the United Nations having declared 2022 the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) is working to focus global attention on the importance and the role played by small-scale fishers, fish farmers and fish workers.

The infographic emphasises the importance of small-scale fishers and aquaculture value chains to the livelihoods of coastal communities across the world. The practice is estimated to support the livelihoods of around 660-820 million people.
