Registrations open for climate finance course in Dhaka
Registrations are now open for the 2016 Climate Finance Short Course, which takes place in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 31 January to 4 February, 2016.
The course is designed to strengthen government capacities to access, manage and deliver international and national climate finance more effectively. It is being sponsored by UKaid and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Full registration details are at the bottom of this page.
This training is aimed at officials from developing countries, especially of those from ministries of finance and planning, as well as representatives of National Designated Authorities for the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
The course includes three days of professional training, a one-day field visit and one day focused on peer-to-peer cross-country learning. The main modules are:
- Definitions and sources of climate finance
- Climate finance and development finance
- International and national policy response to climate change
- National climate finance: channels, on budget, off budget
- Tools for analysing the budget
- International climate finance
- Subnational climate finance
- Public-private climate finance
- Exercises and role play
- Peer-to-peer learning network, and
- A field trip.
The programme will be delivered by:
- Neha Rai, senior researcher in IIED's Climate Change Group
- IIED chief economist Paul Steele
- Saleemul Huq, senior fellow at IIED and director of the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) in Bangladesh
- Angus Mackay, head of the climate change programme at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)
- Joanne Manda, climate change finance specialist at the UNDP Bangkok regional hub
- Suren Poghosyan, of the UNDP's governance of climate change finance team, and
- Nanki Kaur, principal researcher with IIED's Climate Change Group.

Fees: The fee for international delegates is $1,500, and includes all tuition, hotel accommodation and food, field visit, training materials, access to alumni facilities airport transfers, but not air tickets. The fee for national delegates is $1,000, which includes all tuition, field visit, training materials, lunches, refreshments and access to alumni facilities, but not hotel accommodation.
