From assessment to action: how SAGE enables local solutions for equitable governance in conservation

Naira is part of IIED’s Natural Resources research group where she works on environmental justice and rights-based approaches to biodiversity conservation and natural resource governance.
Political ecology; conservation and natural resource governance; environmental justice, social equity and rights-based approaches; participatory research methodologies; mixed-method and interdisciplinary research; monitoring, learning and evaluation.
Naira has worked in Europe (UK, Germany), Latin America (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador) and Africa (Madagascar, Mozambique, Uganda).
Before joining IIED, Naira conducted PhD research on the questions how and why (not) to evaluate equitable governance in conservation areas. As part of her research, she collaborated and worked with IIED and its partners.
Previously, Naira worked on environmental social science research projects with the Stockholm Environment Institute and the University of East Anglia.
Education
Naira is currently supporting the ‘scaling up equitable governance’ project of IIED’s conservation, communities and equity programme, coordinating action research and advocacy with partners in Bolivia, Kenya, Madagascar, Nepal and Tanzania.
