Biodiversity, climate and development in the 2020 debate

A blog series exploring how the new global biodiversity framework synergises with efforts to tackle climate change and achieve sustainable development

A blog series exploring the links between biodiversity, climate and development as the post-2020 global biodiversity framework is developed.

Throughout 2020, parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity will seek to agree a new framework that will achieve a vision of living in harmony with nature.

It’s been agreed the new deal must synergise with efforts to tackle climate change and achieve sustainable development. This blog series will bring different perspectives on the links between biodiversity, climate and development, in particular highlighting the role that nature plays in supporting livelihoods and contributing to sustainable development.

Topics will include the role of sustainable use in reducing biodiversity loss and benefitting people; whether investing in nature can generate development benefits without undermining biodiversity; and how the post-2020 global framework can work for local people.
