Establishing a biocultural heritage territory to protect Kenya’s Kaya forests: third annual project workshop
This workshop brought together around 50 community participants from 10 villages for the third annual workshop for the project, ‘Establishing a biocultural heritage territory to protect Kenya’s Kaya forests’.
The project aims to conserve biodiversity and genetic resources in four sacred Kaya forests and across the landscape. It also aims to enhance livelihoods and establish a community institution for collective governance of the Rabai Biocultural Heritage Territory.
The workshop included a community dialogue on cultural revival and customary governance, a review of project progress and a discussion of challenges, and ended with a biocultural festival.
This report summarises the key discussions and reflections from the four days.
