Expertise

National to local delivery mechanisms for climate finance in support of locally led adaptation; participatory and interdisciplinary approaches to climate-resilient local governance and community planning, working with governments across scale and non-state actors; dynamics of sustainable drylands livelihoods systems with a focus on pastoralism; participatory policy-oriented research combining scientific and indigenous knowledge, and design of effective knowledge training tools and approaches integrated into university curriculums.

Before IIED

Director/coordinator of Arid Lands Information Network (1988-96); Sahel Monitoring and Early Warning Systems Manager, Oxfam (1985-88); researcher at International Livestock Centre for Africa in Mali (1981-84). 

Ced was also a senior fellow and team leader, climate resilience, productivity and equity in the drylands, in IIED's Climate Change research group until September 2024.
