UN climate negotiations video update: "Good COP vs bad COP"
In the COP17 side events “we see a lot of hope, solutions and activities at the side events of a positive nature which completely bely the negative vibes coming out of the negotiations themselves,” says Saleemul Huq, IIED’s Senior Fellow in the Climate Change group reporting from the UN Climate Negotiations in Durban. Examples include an event by Practical Action and the African Centre for Technology and Science on action at the local and the national level based on examples from Zimbabwe, Kenya, Bangladesh etc,
“So it’s an interesting mixture of the good COP and the bad COP, with the bad COP being the negotiators being in entrenched positions,” says Saleemul Huq, and the good COP being all the non–negotiators sharing and networking.
