Gabrielle Swaby

Gabrielle Swaby was a researcher in IIED's Climate Change research group until June 2021

Full biography
Expertise

Gabrielle has a strong background in international climate politics and the UN climate negotiations, as well as climate diplomacy. She is interested in national-level implementation of climate commitments, especially with regard to long-term low-carbon, climate-resilient strategies.

Before IIED

Gabrielle was formerly an associate with the Climate Briefing Service (based at the European Climate Foundation and the World Resources Institute). She supported strategy development and political analysis to assess progress of international climate change politics and the UN climate negotiations.

Previously, she worked on a range of climate change and sustainable development issues as a policy analyst at the International Telecommunication Union, research support at the National Wildlife Federation, an intern at UNEP’s Regional Coordinating Unit in Jamaica, and a research fellow at the University of Central Florida.

Current work

Supporting the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group in the UNFCCC negotiations, with particular attention to mitigation/NDCs; supporting the efforts of LDC representatives and special climate envoys to engage in climate diplomacy activities in the UNFCCC and other multilateral fora; contributing to strategic research on global climate governance.
