Nature markets are expanding rapidly as governments and investors seek new ways to finance biodiversity conservation and restoration.

These markets depend on vast amounts of data, much of it linked to Indigenous Peoples and their territories. Indigenous leadership, co‑design and co-implementation of nature markets are key to ensuring that market-based tools deliver for both nature and peoples.

This report examines how the management of Indigenous data (data derived from Indigenous Peoples and their territories) should be built into nature markets, examining the opportunities and risks posed by new monitoring technologies and offering practical guidance for designing equitable, rights-based and effective data management plans for nature finance.
