Race and racism audit recommendations 2024/25 update

This progress update, prepared by IIED’s race and racism working group, reports on the organisation’s continued response to the recommendations of its independent race and racism audit. 

The audit examined how racism, coloniality and unequal power relations shape IIED’s culture, systems and ways of working. 

Building on the external publication of the audit findings in July 2024, this document reflects on the implementation, experimentation, learning, reflection and organisational change since then. 

It outlines progress made, emerging challenges and the next steps needed to strengthen governance, accountability and long-term institutional transformation as IIED shifts from diagnosis towards embedding anti-racist, decolonial and justice-centred practice across the institute.
