Lessons for designing locally led adaptation programmes
Locally led adaptation (LLA) is essential for effective and equitable climate action. Yet few projects fully embed the LLA principles in programme design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.
The Generating Ambition for Locally Led Adaptation (GA-LLA) programme developed a set of ‘design principles’ to guide decision making, funding distribution and activity development and implementation. This helps ensure partners collaborate to support scaled climate action that is truly locally led.
This briefing broadens these principles to apply to a wider range of actors developing and implementing LLA projects, to help make adaptation programmes more effective, sustainable and responsive to local contexts, capacities and needs.
