NSSD Quicklinks: What is NSSD? | How does it work? |Results/Outputs What is NSSD?In 1998, IIED was engaged in coordinating an international, multi-donor initiative under the auspices of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) Development Assistance Committee (DAC), to undertake dialogues on nssds in a range of developing countries. (see SPA projects for more info). The country dialogues aim to make a concrete contribution to NSSD processes and donor coordination in the participating countries. Website: www.nssd.net How does it work? Participatory dialogues (during 2000-01) - involving stakeholders from government, the private sector and civil society - and are being facilitated by local teams, guided by local steering committees, in five countries:
The process involves status reviews to examine experience to date of national strategic planning and participatory debate through focus groups, round tables, national workshops, etc. Also, the strategic planning experiences of three other parallel learning countries (Ghana, Pakistan and Namibia) are also being harnessed through targeted review processes. The dialogues and review processes are drawing experience and lessons concerning the development and implementation of nssds and examining how donors can best assist developing countries in such processes. Results/ Outputs:
The outputs from this NSSD initiative will be one of the main inputs from the DAC to Rio+10 in 2002. Work on Strategies for Sustainable Development Resource Book moves into Top Gear. The OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC), with assistance from IIED, are producing "A Resource Book for the Development and Implementation of Strategies for Sustainable Development". We would welcome comments, suggestions and offers of assistance on any aspect of the process to develop the Resource Book.
