agrifood logoSmall-scale producers and standards in agrifood supply chains

This three-year IIED-DFID-NRI programme is exploring ways to create opportunities and identify favourable outcomes for small-scale producers in developing countries to participate in international horticultural supply chains - in particular those in the UK. The rise of private standards and the current and changing public standards impacting the horticultural sector give strong concerns that the way these supply chains are managed – through standards and certification processes – are also a potential barrier to entry for smaller producers and enterprises. The project hasl worked with food retailers, importers, standard-setting bodies, traders and producers towards ensuring that supply chain standards and other procurement practices do not discriminate against small-scale producers, with a focus on African export horticulture.

IIED and the New Economics Foundation announce an inaugural fellowship programme on Greening Economics

IIED and nef have launched a Fellowship Programme to bring new thinking to the challenges of applying economics to environment and development. The inaugural IIED-nef Fellowship prize will be awarded to an outstanding researcher through a competitive process. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to make a real contribution to both theory and practice, to both help frame the debate and chart the way forward, and to play a part in moving us from an unsustainable to a more sustainable economic system.
