About Us...
Governance is the process or method by which society is governed. It includes regionalisation, decentralisation and the informal interactions between government and other actors (including non-governmental) and the key roles they play in delivering effective, accountable solutions to shared problems.
IIED’s Governance group consists of the following:
| |
Global governance looks at governance at local, national and global levels. Balancing efforts to achieve progress is central. This is explored in issues such as poverty eradication, ecosystem stability, stable livelihoods and openness and accountability in decision-making.
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) - IIED is an active member of MDG partnership and has launched a programme of collaborative research, networking and advocacy on the MDGs.
Foundation for International Environmental Law and Development (FIELD) provides advice and assistance to governments, inter-governmental and non-governmental organisations internationally. FIELD is a working subsidiary of IIED and works closely alongside on a range of research activity.
Strategies, Planning and Assessment (SPA) is concerned with integrated policy-making, planning and decision-making for sustainable development at national to local levels.
Cross-cutting work on governance - The issue of governance is integral and some examples of this type of work can be seen throughout our research groups. |
