Connie Hedegaard Delivers IIED's 2010 Barbara Ward Lecture
IIED's 2010 Barbara Ward lecture was delivered by Connie Hedegaard, the European Commissioner for Climate Action, and host of last year's UN climate change conference in Copenhagen. Many of you will recognise Connie Hedegaard as a powerful advocsate for an ambitious deal on climate change. A journalist and broadcaster by profession, she was Denmark's Minister for Environment (2004-2007) and for Energy and Climate Change (2007-2009)

The Barbara Ward Lecture series was established in honour of IIED’s founder, Barbara Ward (1914 –1981), a renowned economist, journalist, lecturer and policy advisor who was among the earliest advocates of sustainable development.
Ward’s vision of a fair and equitable global society that does not live at the expense of future generations and the integrity of the environment we depend on has never been more relevant. She set up IIED in 1971 to research the links between environment and development and her legacy reaches far beyond its walls.
