The COP22 conclusion: In his 12th and final update, Huq recaps the last fortnight spent in Marrakech. He provides an assessment of the conclusion of the UN climate talks and highlights the key decisions taken (or not).

A new university network on capacity building (17 November): In his 11th vlog from Marrakech, Huq unveils a new university network from global North and South countries that intend to work together on capacity building issues. Huq also reveals a planned network of universities from Least Developed Countries.

Capacity building (15 November): Huq's 10th update focuses on the issue of capacity building, included in Article 11 of the Paris Agreement, and how long-term capacity bulding cannot mean consultants flying into developing countries for brief visits. 

Bangladesh's role in the negotiations: (14 November): As the second week of COP22 begins in Marrakech, Huq's ninth update examines the role of the Bangladesh delegation in the talks, as ministers arrive in Morocco to finish the negotiations and start to craft the messages. 

2016 Development & Climate Days (13 November): In his eighth update from Marrakech, Huq reflects on 14 years of the D&C Days conference he founded, which takes place in the middle weekend of COP, and relates some of the discussion and debate that took place among the several hundred participants.

ICCCAD's loss and damage event (11 November): On his seventh update from the UN climate negotiations, Huq explains why his institute, the International Centre for Climate Change and Development, hosts regular networking events on loss and damage for research groups.

Loss and damage (10 November): Huq's sixth update from Marrakech focuses on the contentious issue of loss and damage. In addition to some history on the topic, he outlines the key areas of discussion, makes clear that loss and damage goes beyond adaptation, and highlights the elevation in importance of migration and displacement.

The implications of the US presidential election result (9 November): Day five in Marrakech was dominated by news of Donald Trump's election as the next President of the United States. Huq gives his reaction and highlights China's role as a global leader in action on climate change.

The Climate Vulnerable Forum (8 November): Huq's fourth update from Marrakech focuses on the key advocacy role played by the Climate Vulnerable Forum, and the formation of the V20, a group made up of finance ministers from vulnerable countries. 

LDC Group history (7 November): In Huq's third update, he discusses the history of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group at the UN climate talks, culminating in its significant role in the inclusion of a 1.5-degree target in the Paris Agreement.

LDC negotiator workshop (5 November): Huq's second update discusses his involvement in training the next generation of negotiators from the Least Developed Countries.

Preview (4 November): Huq's first update previews the UN summit and sets out three main issues to be addressed during the negotiations.

IIED senior fellow Saleemul Huq is providing video blogs from the climate summit in Morocco. Huq, who acts as advisor to the group of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) at the UN climate change negotiations, will be analysing progress at the talks, reporting on side events and providing insights into key issues affecting the LDCs.

The 22nd Conference of Parties (COP22) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is taking place in Marrakech, Morocco, from 7-18 November, 2016. The convention binds more than 190 countries to act together to limit climate change. The 48 Least Developed Countries negotiate as a bloc within the talks. 

Huq, who is also director of the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD), will be advising the chair of the LDC Group, Tosi Mpanu-Mpanu of the Democratic Republic of Congo, during COP22. He will be focusing particularly on climate change adapation and the issue of loss and damage.

The LDC countries are especially vulnerable to climate change but have done the least to cause the problem. Ahead of the Marrakech summit, IIED director Andrew Norton argued that the voices of the world's poorest people must be heard at global climate talks if the landmark Paris Agreement of 2015 is to be effective. 

IIED is providing support to LDC climate negotiators and has published a toolkit for first-time delegates to COP, designed in particular for negotiators from LDC countries. IIED and partners will also be participating in numerous events at the Marrakech conference.
