Sarah Grainger

Media manager, Communications

Sarah Grainger is a media and communications professional with more than a decade of experience as a BBC journalist and six years of experience in strategic communications in the third sector.
Full biography
Expertise

Sarah has over 20 years of experience in communications, including radio and television news production. She has created and executed strategies for campaigns and fundraising in the third sector on issues including climate change and the conflicts in Yemen and Syria.

Before IIED

Sarah worked for more than 14 years as a journalist, mainly for the BBC and Reuters based at various times in the UK, East Africa and Latin America. She spent time training journalists in South Sudan with the iNGO Internews before moving to the media unit at Oxfam GB for more than six years.

Education

  • Master’s degree in African studies from the School of Oriental and Africa Studies
  • Postgraduate diploma in broadcast journalism from the London College of Printing
  • Bachelor’s degree in English studies from the University of Nottingham

Current work

Sarah develops, implements and monitors IIED’s overall media strategy, to reach and influence audiences through mainstream and specialist media.
