Emilie’s work focuses on exploring the interactions between different types of environmental interventions, ecological and climate changes, and local livelihoods in resource-dependent communities in terrestrial landscapes. She specializes in developing and implementing evaluation and research designs to assess the effectiveness of development, climate, land and environmental interventions, especially with regards to the operationalisation of complex concepts, such as climate resilience, adaptation and human wellbeing.

Her interests lie at the nexus of climate, conservation and land use research using applied and policy research, evaluation and multi-actor dialogues to provide evidence supporting national and international policies for sustainable development and planning.

Social-ecological systems approach for sustainable development; assessing climate resilience in developing countries; monitoring and evaluation of conservation and development interventions; community-based interventions; econometrics and statistical modelling of socio-ecological data; training and capacity-building of local researchers in developing countries.

Emilie’s work has spread across Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea), West Africa (Senegal, Mali, Cameroon), East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania), Costa Rica, Barbados and India.

Before IIED

Emilie was a post-doctoral researcher working on climate resilience with the Community Ecology Research in Oxford (CERO) and the ICCS at the University of Oxford. Emilie previously worked as an analyst in corporate sustainability at Verdantix, as a policy analyst at DEFRA, and as environmental consultant for SM Group International.
