This independent evaluation, commissioned by IIED, provides an overview of the progress, achievements and impact of the Forest Governance Learning Group initiative to date and concludes with a range of recommendations for consideration with regard to future support.

The evaluation reports that the decentralised manner in which FGLG has worked across the ten countries has provided an important testing ground for locally-driven and innovative approaches, as typified by the sheer variety of forms and functions of different country groups. IIED has played an important role in fostering this innovation – challenging country teams both individually and collectively to innovate, take risks and experiment.
