The focus of this work was to describe and compare mine closure policy and implementation from different countries. The analysis focused on the legislative and institutional frameworks, economic and financial considerations and public participation in mine closure policy. The study was undertaken for Australia, Japan, Papua New Guinea, The Philippines, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Peru, The United States, Namibia, South Africa, Ireland and Spain.
