About IIED Publications
IIED Publications are authored by both the Institute’s staff and our partners. If you wish to contact IIED staff please go to our staff pages.

We only publish the work of our Institute and do not offer publishing services to the general public, we therefore do not accept manuscripts or publishing proposals.

The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) holds the copyright for all IIED publications. They are subject to UK copyright law.

However, IIED seeks to ensure that our research reaches as wide an audience as possible and is used to inform policy, teaching and further research. Therefore both Non-commercial and Commercial dissemination will normally be authorised. However, permission must be granted before reproducing our work.

What is PDF?
Throughout the IIED site you will encounter references to Adobe Acrobat 'Portable Document Format' (PDF) files.

PDF is a proprietary format that allows you to read electronic documents, either on or off line. This format provides a page-by-page view of documents, exactly as they appear in their printed form, as well as allowing keyword search.

Adobe provides a free Acrobat Reader that allows you to view, navigate, and print PDF files across all major computing platforms.

If you do not already have it, you can download the FREE Adobe Acrobat reader, which you may then install and use to access PDF documents on this site.

In most cases, hard-copy editions are available from the IIED Bookshop at Earthprint.com.
