IIED's work on Strategies, Planning and Assessment (SPA) is concerned with integrated policy-making, planning and decision-taking for sustainable development at national to local levels, the links and relations between them, and the assessment and tools which support and enable these processes.

Environmental Law (FIELD)

The Foundation for International Environmental Law and Development was founded in London in 1989 by a small group of international lawyers. The result is a vibrant and thriving organisation whose advice and assistance are sought by governments, inter-governmental and non-governmental organisations world-wide.

Our Sustainable Development Opinion give IIED researchers, partners and affiliates a platform to air views on today's key issues in sustainable development, from biodiversity, biofuels, climate change and fair-trade timber to sustainable business and urban resilience.

Our Briefing Papers are clear overviews of today's environment and development issues. Accessible, topical and relevant to a range of readerships, they offer up-to-date research, flag up the people and processes involved, and point to needed shifts in policy. Recent briefings have covered air travel, climate change adaptation, cities and the links between biodiversity and poverty.
