The recently released report from IPCC Working Group II makes it clear that despite efforts to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases a certain amount of adverse impacts from human induced climate change is now inevitable in the next decade or two.

It also makes clear that those communities that are most likely to face the most adverse impacts are poor and vulnerable communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

It is therefore important for those who work with or for poor and vulnerable communities in developing countries to understand the possible potential impacts of climate change on those communities and prepare to deal with adverse impacts through adaptation to climate change.

Over a hundred policy makers, funders, researchers and practitioners met recently in Bangladesh at the second International Workshop on Community Based Adaptation (CBA) to climate change to share their work, knowledge and experiences with each other. The meeting will show short video on the Bangladesh CBA Workshop and discuss some preliminary lessons learned from activities on Community Based Adaptation.

Community-Based Adaptation. A vital approach to the threat climate change poses to the poor.
Helping the millions of poor people at greatest risk from climate change to adapt to its impacts is a daunting task. One new approach that deserves greater support is community-based adaptation (CBA). This briefing paper outlines the concepts behind CBA, shares some early lessons learned, and calls for greater networking, information sharing and support for CBA activities.
