Haramata - Bulletin of the Drylands
Published since 1988, Haramata has established itself as a valuable information and networking channel for people working for the sustainable development or dryland areas, mainly but not exclusively in Africa. Every edition of Haramata is published in both French and English, with the aim of building stronger bridges of communication between these two language areas in Africa. Haramata underwent a radical change in 2006 to coincide with the publication of no. 50, acquiring a more Africa-centred body of contributors and a new format in full colour. Subscriptions to Haramata are free of charge. Topics are treated in more depth in the Dryland Issue Papers. Please contact drylands@iied.org

Haramata 50
The 50th special issue, extended to 40 pages, focuses on old and new challenges in the drylands.
The Periscope section looks at the key issues of urbanisation and climate change, while Innovations is a new feature that will examine the up-to-the-minute technologies that are changing people’s lives. Regular rubrics such as News and Books/Resources are being retained, and it’s hoped the new style will help Haramata to become a more interactive medium on the whole range of dryland concerns.
