Project name: Capacity Building and Networking
Dates/Duration: 2001-2005
Project Purpose
The purpose of this project is to build capacity in Southern institutions, and develop guidance by disseminating the lessons from the research on Markets for Environmental Services and by building an international network of interested informed agencies.
Focus
To date we have
- Held several international workshops of researchers and practitioners from around the world.
- Established a network of partners in several developing (including Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Philippines, South Africa, India, Indonesia and the Caribbean) and developed countries to share lessons on markets for environmental services and to initiate policy research and action-learning.
- Provided on-going inputs to global dialogue on the development of 'pro-poor' markets for environmental services, through participation in meetings and conferences, and the publication of reports, journal articles, news briefs, etc.
- Facilitated a training workshop on Reward Mechanisms in Markets for Environmental Services for environmental practitioners in Thailand in September 2003 for the ICRAF/RUPES initiative in South East Asia.
- Facilitated an information sharing workshop in Quito, Ecuador, in March 2004 in which the partners from the Latin American Markets for Environmental Services case study areas shared their experiences with policy makers and NGOs.
