Theme: Climate Change and Sustainable Livelihoods Linkages

Project Name: Poverty and climate change: A South-South-North collaboration

Dates: January 2005 – January 2008

Project Partners: SouthSouthNorth (Africa); IIED; COPPE UFRJ, an institute of the University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; The Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies, Bangladesh; Pelangi, Jakarta, Indonesia; and HELIO International, Paris, France.

Goal:

Structural and direct poverty reduction through increased southern capacity to secure sustainable development through climate change projects that mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to the adverse effects of climate change, and transfer appropriate technology, and deliver applicable policy lessons.

Quantifiable results:

  • A set number of Mitigation Projects alleviating poverty
  • A set number of Adaptation Projects alleviating poverty
  • The transfer of appropriate technologies for each project and capacity in beneficiaries to receive and manage them
  • Capacity development of partners and stakeholders
  • Project based policy lessons formulated and delivered to policy makers
